
Workings are quite similar to the "data collection" experiment, but the data collection strategy is targeted at rotating the goniostat into as many different orientations as possible to smooth out the powder rings.

The only parameters for the powder strategy are the detector to crystal distance (dx), the frame time, and the maximum desired diffraction angle (theta). The frame time will be used together with the highest possible rotation speed of the phi motor to design a scan with the highest possible phi-rotation angle. A number of (overlapping) scans at different detector swing angles will be calculated, covering the complete range from theta=0 to the desired limit.

The scan has the scan angle and the frame time preset; these are now no longer variable scan parameters. The only scan parameters left are the filename pattern, and the number of iterations for each frame.

Ready for data collection.

Since the reorientations are not completely random, the diffraction rings will not be complete, and definitely not be homogeneous. Making more different scans and adding them together using imagesum might in the future be part of the powder experiment.
The resulting KCD files can be turned into a powder diagram by the separate program powderize.
